John McKie, GodwinGroup Managing Partner, participated in Career Chats at Mississippi State University, speaking to a group of undergraduate Marketing students. This event brings business people into the classroom to talk about their experiences so that the students have a clearer idea of the “real world” and the job market. McKie has been an annual speaker since 2010.
Karen Johnson, Production Manager, will serve as 2017 co-chair and chair for 2018 for the American Advertising Federation’s District 7 National Student Advertising Competition. Each year a corporate sponsor provides an assignment or real-world case study for students that outlines the history of its product and advertising situation. 2016 is Snapple—previously Yahoo, Coke and other major brands have been sponsors. College students must research the product and its competition, identify potential problem areas and devise a completely integrated communications campaign. Each student team then “pitches” its campaign to a panel of judges.
Students from Rosa Scott School recently toured GodwinGroup to learn more about agency careers in areas of public relations, social media, digital advertising, creative and web development. Also, a group of DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) students from Florence High School recently worked with GodwinGroup staff to rehearse projects for the DECA State Career Development Conference (state championships).
Johnny Lowe, GodwinGroup copy editor, who also is a ventriloquist, did a walk-around performance at the Salvation Army SOUPer Bowl fundraiser on Super Sunday as part of festivities. Johnny was joined by his puppets: Hunter “the super-amazing purple cat” and Homer C.C. Cookie the sheepdog.
