The Jackson-area community was invited out to the Mississippi Trade Mart at the Fairgrounds in Jackson to brush up on their safety skills in a unique, fun way. Both parents and children got hands-on help from Mississippi’s safety experts. The day consisted of child safety demonstrations and exhibitions, car seat inspections and safety games for kids and teens, including simulator rides that provided lifelike experiences to help teens improve their driving skills. There was also a bike raffle and helmet giveaway, a space jump, rock climbing and plenty to eat and drink.
And it was all caught and shared on Snapchat — with a customized filter!
Businesses and individuals can purchase On-Demand Geofilters for events, businesses or locations that use their brand logos and trademarks. MDOT is the first state agency to utilize this popular platform, and we were excited to be the first agency alongside them.
The Safety Fair was used to test branded Geofilters, and the trial went remarkably well. Approximately 1,200 people attended the event. Our geofence was set to encompass the Trade Mart and surrounding fairgrounds (see image at left), and the time for the life of the filter was set for midnight before the Safety Fair to 11 p.m.
A total of 30 snaps were shared using the MDOT filter on the day of the event, and 1,048 snaps using the filter were viewed. These results are promising — and an even larger audience will breed even better results.
