The Power of Words – Mississippi Power Online Marketing

Successful marketing isn’t always about elaborate designs and spectacular pictures. Effective messaging should be creative, but only in the way that it strongly communicates your message and asks for specific action. An effective message is created by the words used to cause the potential customer to take action right away.

Recent examples of such messages are six, 15-second video advertisements GodwinGroup produced for Mississippi Power. These pre-roll spots were designed for the Web and are played before news stories hosted on the websites of local broadcast stations. Two spots were produced to increase awareness about Mississippi Power’s paperless billing option, and four spots were created to educate and remind customers about simple, energy-efficiency tips they can use at home to save money on their power bills. The goal for all six spots was to send consumers to Mississippi Power’s website and for customers to register for the paperless billing option. The spots are currently running on the websites of WLOX on the Gulf Coast, WDAM in Hattiesburg, and WTOK in Meridian, and they also appear on the sites as static, clickable Web banners.

In June, 178 million U.S. internet users accessed online video content. Digitally generated Web content is generally quick and easy to produce, as well as cost-effective and measurable.
